India e-Visa makes exploring India easier than ever. Whether you're drawn by the Taj Mahal, a yoga retreat, business opportunities, or medical care, this digital visa simplifies your entry—no embassy visits, no paperwork maze. Here's everything you need to know before you pack your bags.
The India e-Visa is an official electronic travel authorization issued by the Government of India that allows foreign nationals to enter the country for specific purposes—without the need to visit an embassy. It is a fully digital visa system.
The India Electronic Visa is available to nationals of selected countries, including the United States, whose sole objective of visiting India falls into one of the approved categories:
Tourism (recreation, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends)
Participation in short-term yoga programs
Medical treatment (including traditional Indian systems of medicine)
Business purposes
Attending conferences, workshops, or seminars organized by Indian government entities
Accompanying an e-Medical Visa holder
However, individuals with diplomatic/official passports, UN travel documents, or those of Pakistani origin (including those with parents or grandparents born in Pakistan) are not eligible for an e-Visa. Instead, they must apply through the standard visa process at an Indian mission.
The e-Visa is available to citizens of over 160 countries. However, it is not available to:
Diplomats or official passport holders
Individuals of Pakistani origin
Travelers visiting Protected/Restricted Areas
Those traveling on international travel documents (e.g., UN passports)
India’s e-Visa is divided into five categories:
India e-Tourist Visa – Available for 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years.
India e-Business Visa – For business meetings, trade, and commerce.
India e-Medical Visa – For medical treatment, with the possibility of an extension.
India e-Medical Attendant Visa – Issued to up to two attendants of a medical visa holder.
India e-Conference Visa – For attendees of government-organized conferences.
Travelers can combine activities (e.g., medical and tourism), provided this is clearly stated in their application. However, e-Conference Visa holders may only combine it with tourist activities, and only for the visa's validity period.
