The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is currently working on a digital immigration system, which involves replacing physical documents with an online record of your immigration status.
This new system is called an eVisa.
The following documents will be replaced by the eVisa:
Biometric residence permits (BRP)
Biometric residence cards (BRC)
Passport endorsements, such as wet ink stamps for indefinite leave to enter
Vignette stickers in passports, like entry clearance or visa vignettes
So, what exactly is UK eVisa? It is an electronic record of your immigration status and the terms and conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK. To access and securely share relevant information about your status with third parties like employers or landlords, it is mandatory to register for a UKVI account.
With an eVisa, you will have several advantages. One major advantage is the enhanced security it provides. Unlike physical documents, eVisas cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with easily. This ensures the integrity of your immigration status and greatly reduces the risk of fraud or unauthorized access.
Additionally, eVisas eliminate the need to wait for or collect physical documents after your application is approved. While you may still be required to provide biometric information in person, you will not have to deal with the hassle of obtaining and carrying a physical document.
Another significant benefit is the convenience it offers when proving your status at the UK border. With an eVisa, the verification process will be quicker and easier, saving you time and reducing any potential delays.
Global Law will continue to update you on the developments of this new E visa throughout 2024.
