UK BRP 2025 deadline.

UK BRP 2025 deadlines: What should you do right now?

Are you suddenly facing UK BRP 2025 deadlines? The Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) system in the UK is undergoing significant changes, and if you hold a BRP, you may be wondering what this means for you. The UK government is replacing BRPs with eVisas—digital records of your immigration status—bringing changes to how you manage your immigration status. We can help you apply for your eVisa.

Key UK BRP 2025 deadlines

  • 31 December 2024: The last date BRPs can expire.

  • 31 March 2025: Expired BRPs will no longer be usable for any purpose.

What happens after March 2025?

After 31 March 2025, expired BRPs won’t work for anything, including travel or proving your status. You’ll need an active eVisa instead.

What should you do right now?

Here’s what you need to do based on your situation:

If your permission to stay is expiring

If your visa or permission to stay in the UK is about to expire, apply to extend your stay or switch to another type of visa before it runs out.

You’ll get an eVisa instead of a new BRP when your application is approved.

If your BRP is expiring but you still have permission to stay

You can keep using your BRP until it expires.

Once it expires, you need to set up access to your eVisa. This won’t happen automatically, so you’ll need to do it yourself.

Keep your expired BRP

Don’t throw it away! Your expired BRP may still be useful for:

Traveling to the UK until 31 March 2025, if it expired on or after 31 December 2024 and you still have permission to stay.

Setting up your UKVI account to activate your eVisa.

Proving your immigration status by generating a share code, which is valid for 90 days.

Travel carefully

If your BRP is expired but meets the conditions above, you may still be able to use it to return to the UK. However, check the latest requirements before you travel.

Set up your eVisa

Switching to an eVisa is simple but requires a few steps:

  • Go to the official UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website and set up your account. You’ll need your personal details and immigration information. You can easily create a UKVI account today.

  • Once your account is ready, you can view your UK eVisa online. It will show your immigration status and permissions.

  • If someone (like an employer or landlord) needs proof of your status, you can generate a share code from your eVisa account. This code is valid for 90 days.
